589 | Brooklyn, NY & Derry — Melissa Anne Waterfall Carroll passed away on Monday, March 31, 2014, after a 3 year battle with Ewing Sarcoma. She is survived by her parents, Paul and Cecelia (Waterfall) Carroll of Derry; sister, Amy Carroll of Pacific Grove, CA; brother, Patrick Carroll of Quincy, MA; maternal grandmother, Dorothea Waterfall of Medford, MA; uncles, aunts and cousins in the U.S. and Ireland; and dear friends around the world. Melissa was born in St Munchin Hospital in Limerick, Ireland. Growing up in Derry, her interests included art, music, reading, swimming and snowboarding. She graduated from Pinkerton Academy, 2001 and Massachusetts College of Art, 2005. In New York City she was assistant to artist Francesco Clemente and in her own studio painted portraits in oils. During her cancer treatment Melissa switched to watercolors and last year had a major show of self-portraits, "Recurrence," that encompassed her cancer treatment. Some of her art work can be viewed at www.melissacarroll.com. Last year between cancer treatments, Melissa journeyed with Fresh Chapter Alliance Foundation to instruct art to young students in Delhi, India and experience the richness of the culture there with others who had been treated for cancer. | CARROLL Melissa Anne (I1567)
