    Waterfall, Charles James (1859-1927), analytical chemist, was born at Bensham, Gateshead, 28 November 1859, son of William Waterfall (1818-1902), commission agent, and Sarah Waterfall (born Waterfall 1824-1891). He was educated at Sidcot School and settled in Bristol as an analytical chemist, establishing the firm Waterfall & O'Brien, and pioneering the application of analytical chemistry to industrial needs. He was official analyst to the Bristol Water Works Company. He was a faithful and consistant Friend. His gift in the vocal ministry was acknowledged by Bristol & Frenchay MM in 1906. He wa a wide reader, ready to adapt his conclusions to advances in scientific knowledge. He married in 1894 Emma Jane Robinson (1860-1922), daughter of George Miller Robinson (184001906) of Pardshaw, and Anna Patience Robinson. He married secondly, in 1924, Annie Bowerman (1883?-1971), daughter of George Bowerman of Clifton, Bristol and Anne Bowerman. There were no children of either marriage.
