Event-Misc 20 May 1917 Awarded the Croix de Guerre - William Waterfall was awarded the Croix de Guerre, the highest French Military honour. He was working with the French Army's 'Section Sanitaire Anglais', and he was given the medal for driving continuously through heavy shell fire (particularly throughout the battles of Flanders and the Somme) to collect the wounded from dressing stations at the front, and transport them to field hospitals, very risky work demanding great personal courage.
