David Cynon Jones / Arthur Clifford

The family story is that David Cynon Jones married Martha Evans in 1897 and they had three children together.  While Martha was pregnant with their daughter Margaret Ann, he slept with her Martha's sister Margaret Evans.  She fell pregnant and also had a daughter.

Once he was found out, he left Martha and ended up in Aberdare and was calling himself Arthur Clifford.  In 1904 he married Mary Edith Williams in Merthyr Tydfill and by February 1905 they had a son Arthur Edwin Clifford.

At some point between 1905 and 1911 David had left his new family and was living in Swansea.  In 1916 he joined the Army and on his military papers it states that his marriage to Martha Evans had been dissolved by the order of the court.

It shows that Mary Edith Williams is the guardian of Arthur Edwin Clifford, and that Arthur Edwin is his son.
