    Skipton man to be liberated from prison camps in Germany by the advancing Allied Armies is:

    Pte. Sidney Waterfall, the younger son of Mrs and the late Mr J.J. Waterfall of Lyndhurst, Embsay, captured by Germans in Crete on May 3rd 1941.

    Pte. Sidney Waterfall, younger son of Mr and Mrs J.J. Waterfall, of Sheep Street, Skipton, is a prisioner of war in Crete. Pte. Waterfall who was serving with the R.A.M.C, was posted missing about two months ago. Aged 24, Pte. Waterfall has played half-back for the Sutton United and Skipton Christ Church football teams. His father is a well-known Skipton bookseller and stationer.

    Mr and Mrs J.J. Waterfall of Sheep Street, Skipton, have received official notification that their younger son, Private Sidney Waterfall, R.A.M.C., serving in the Middle East, has been posted as missing. Aged 24, he was previousley employed by Messrs. Knowles and Harrison Solicitors, Skipton. He has played half-back for Skipton Christ Church and Sutton United football clubs.

    Waterfall - 25th June. At Skipton to Joseph J. and Edith Waterfall, a son who was named Sidney.

    Internment:
    Prisoner of war. Captured on Crete and sent to Stalag VIIIB. On 21 Jan 1945 moved to Stalag VIIIC and on 4 Feb 1945 camp was evacuated and had to march for 400 miles which took 30 days until they reached camp 9c at Bad Orb and stayed here until the camp was liberated by the Americans on the 2 Apr 1945.

    Death of Mrs J.J. Waterfall

    Mrs Edith Waterfall of "Lyndhurst", Embsay, the widow of the late Mr J.J. Waterfall, died on Monday, aged 58 years. The remains were cremated at Bradford on Wednesday, and yesterday (Thursday) there was a meeting at the Friends' House at Airton. Mrs Waterfall is survived by two sons and a daughter.

    During the Second World War, Hulda lived in France, first in Paris and then in Nice. She was arrested twice, first in 1942, and was released, as she could prove that she was a Protestant. The second time was in April 1944, when she was deported to Auschwitz via Drancy.

    In the 1920's Hulda worked for Princess Boncompti in Fumie, Italy for 18 months as a personal assistant.

    Deported from Nice in March 1944, and was sent to Drancy, France. She arrived there on 24 March 1944 in convoy 71.
